Sporting twenty-four hectares of seaside park, 600 metres of wide sandy beach, 1.2 km, of shoreline seawalk, six athletic fields, a skateboarding park, basketball and tennis courts, volleyball and a Par 3 golf course, Ambleside Park is West Vancouver’s most popular recreation spot. Now, with a little help from the city, Ambleside is getting a facelift.

The plan calls for a framework to enhance the park for visitors and to ensure a good fit as land uses change in and around Ambleside Village and the Squamish Nation lands.

The new plan, borne from consultations with stakeholders and the public and district staff, recognizes the need to designate the north park as a “Center of Excellence” for soccer and to make the south park a car-free, multipurpose recreation zone for athletic fields and special events. In addition, overall circulation will be improved for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and dog walkers, and the beach and waterfront walkway will be refreshed and made more accessible. The Hollyburn Sailing Club will be reconfigured to enhance its visibility and its and role in the community.

The draft Ambleside Park Vision Plan was submitted last summer, and renovations are due to be completed by mid-2008.
